Ok, we had a great time at this KOA! The Buena Vista KOA campground is situated up on the western ridge of the mountains just east of Buena Vista and Johnson Village, CO. It’s about 2 to 2 1/2 hours drive outside of Denver west down highway 285. When we arrived, we stopped into the main office to check-in where we were greeted by one of the KOA owners and her daughter–both where VERY pleasant to say the least! We were promptly checked in and out of the office in the less than 10 minutes.
Getting to our site was very easy. Just circled around one of the loops and a very short to the other side of the KOA and we where the there! We reserved a full-hookup 30amp site which was obliviously very clean and well maintained! You can tell these owners take pride in their KOA and it shows. We’re in site 64, with the white truck.
We had no problems getting our trailer setup. Don’t let my opening paragraph deceive you, even though the KOA is tucked up on the ridge the sites are still very level. Being up on the ridge had it advantages. You have a great view of the valley below and an awesome view of Mt. Princeton. While we were here for the weekend, we stopped over at the Mt. Princeton hot springs for some of the day on Saturday. The hot springs are awesome! I really had a great time and enjoyed the ambiance but my allergies were giving me a fit that day so we decided to head back to our camp early after having lunch at the resort restaurant. After we got back to the KOA, we where pretty pooped and just relaxed in the trailer, besides we had a few storms roll through so it was a great time to just chill.
That’s about all I’ve got for this stay. Like I said, we really enjoyed this KOA. I wish we could have gotten out to see more, maybe take a hike or two around the area. There was a hiking/biking trail just off the KOA campground but unfortunately due to the weather and my allergies it wasn’t going to happen. It’s definitely on my list to return to again. Oh, and one other great thing to note… From our site the free wifi worked great! I was able to access the interwebs no problem but not quite sure how it would fair around the rest of the park.
